Can’t Say I Can

What if I can’t be what you want me to be

Am I to blame for being who I meant to be?

What if all your hopes and dreams are lies

Would you finally realize what’s real?

What if time is an illusion of hope

And what’s left are abandonment and failures

Would you learn to rely on yourself this time?

Or would I be to blame for all that’s left

Is it wrong to open your eyes to the reality

And reach for the dreams that are approachable

Is it sinful to destroy your blind faith

And finally reveal what’s inside of me?

Why can’t happiness be genuine

Free from all distractful superficials?

What I feel are real, there’s no made up laughter

Or cries, or smiles, for that matter

Will you accept me for who I am

And not for someone you’d dream of?

Will you open up your arms

And embrace a simple, little, ordinary girl.
